Claudia de Vos is an aroma psychologist  and artist from the Netherlands.

The psychodynamics of aromatherapy and the symbolism of scent have an important place in her work. Claudia gives lectures and trainings and works actively to promote awareness of aromatherapy in the Netherlands via her company 'Zes zintuigen' (Six senses) and the former SBA foundation.

She has designed a range of Aromatherapycards to help introduce people to aromatherapy and help them in their journey of personal development.

Her new book 'Perfume of Life', where symbolism on plants play a major role, is about to be published. Her Art and Fragrance objects can been seen (and scented) on several exhibitions.

As exchange of aromatherapy knowledge is the drive of her company she travels around the world for the latest innovations, traditions and development around aroma science and scents.

On these journeys she meets many other inspiring aromatic innovaters.

All of her experiences are incorporated in her lectures, training and publications.

A last minute decision made me hurry of to Spain and join a great scent-event organized by IFEAT/ICAT in Barcelona. At this special traing for noses, chemists and aroma-involved people, we were presented with more then 100 scents. The international aromatic setting had Japanese, Italian, Indian, Spanish, English, Libanese and Dutch (me) participants, and I was enthousiastic to find indeed we have universal emotions on certain odors, but also big differences.

In this 'fragrant cloud' I met Najat Saliba, a chemistry assosiate professor from the American University of Beirut and Director of the Nature conservation center for Sustainable Futures. One of her research interests lies in th extraction and identification of the chemical profile of essential oils from plants of high commercial value.

The Ibsar Nature Conservation Center for Sustainable Futures, is an AUB institute that does research and public outreach related to Lebanon’s biodiversity. Najat currently directs the center and leads projects evaluating potential medicinal properties of the country’s plant and marine extracts. Najat is an inspiring person and plans and ideas where born, or should I say 'planted', during our training between working and leasure.

Connecting scents in Grasse 2011 (F)

Theme of this year greatest symposium on scents in the city of perfume, Grasse, was traditional use and symbolism on plants and scents. There was much to hear and and many collegues to meet!

This year I met the wonderfull Ann Barker Harman, a destiller from America with a company called 'Morning Mist Botanics'. She did a lecture on distilling the Elder. She showed us her delicated process and took us with many slides to enjoy the beautifull environment of her farm where here plants and trees grow. It was an inspiring lecture with interesting history and some secrets of destilling  as well!

As Ann and I share the same interest in love for nature and the endless posibilities  of the world of scents, we spent some great time exchanging knowledge: and even better: another global Nose is added to this site!

Connecting scents with Nicolas de Barry (F)

September 2010

As our meeting in 2009 on Bali was prevented, this time myself and husband (photographer Frank van Biemen) where invited to the beautiful chateau Frilleuse of master perfumer and author Nicolas de Barry in the middle of France. Goal: to set up an inspiring masterclass on Perfume and scent psychology and also do an interview on the work of Nicolas. It was both interesting and worthwhile as we made a super program for the mastclass summer 2011. The interview with beautifull pictures is to be published in 2011 in a brand new magazine. I'll keep you informed.

Connecting scents in Grasse (F)

March 2010

The great International symposium for aromatherapy and Medical Plants in Grasse(F) is a superb meeting place for many Global NOSES.

Claudia was there to present her work on ART and fragrance for the first time abroad. She met many interesting people such as scientists, (ethno)botanists, aroma specialists, perfumers, engineer-disitillers and aroma industrial owners from all over the world.

One of them and lecturing on the conference was the American ‘Medicine Hunter’ Chris Kilham. Chris is specialised in finding natural cures and remedies in the out bounds of the world. He wrote several books on the subject and presents his journeys in his televionshow “Medicine Trail” for Fox TV. He takes great effort in creating fair trade between aboriginals and indutries.

Claudia and Chris took the occasion to spend some time in the botanical gardens near Grasse to exchanche visions on ways to nurture nature and the use of medical and aromatic plants. The common thought this afternoon was: if you have experienced the power of natures gifts, you will respect it and never do anything to harm earth.

Connecting scents in Ubud , Bali

Januari 2009

UTAMA spice is a true tropical discovery on the paradise Island Bali.

Runned by Ni Wayan Lilir, an Ayurvedic doctor in training, the company has a beautiful range of local essential oils and herbs. Lilir comes from a long family tradition of Balinese natural healers. She was taught by her grandfather and mother. The company was founded by the British Melanie Templer in 1997. Today the company has expanded and provides work for a growing staff.

Claudia de Vos visited the company and enjoyed the purifying scents of Balinese essential oils. Of course, as it is in connecting scents, scents were exchanged . Oils that are rare on Bali, like rose oil, made Lilir very happy. And the beautiful mix of the ‘temple spice’ with  was gladly taken home to Holland. Both parties are hoping on further exchange in the future!

Gabriël Mojay is a very special aromatherapist and well known in the world of aromatheraphy. He lectures all over the world and is a leading authority on the application of Oriental Medicine to Aromatherapy. His Institute of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Aromatherapy guided already hundreds of professional aromatherapists in the UK.

The ambassador of scent Claudia was lucky to meet Gabriël again and share matters of spiritual aroma-essence.

The Belgium Frank Vandaele has made it his speciality. As a professional aromaspecialist and cook he combines both of his skills in a complete aromatic and gastronomical night out.

As a collegue I have been invited and tried it for myself.

What can I say, lovers of good food and intense scents: rush off and go for the Mamooning experience! .
