UTAMA spice is a true tropical discovery on the paradise Island Bali. I met this wonderfull company after a wonderfull 'herbal walk' around the rice padys .
During this walk you are introduced to original tropical herbs like Turmuric (Curcuma Longa) and Tulsi(Ocimum sanctum).
Runned by Ni Wayan Lilir, an Ayurvedic doctor in training, the company has a beautiful range of local essential oils and herbs. Lilir comes from a long family tradition of Balinese natural healers. She was taught by her grandfather and mother. The company was founded by the British Melanie Templer in 1997. Today the company has expanded and provides work for a growing staff.
Claudia visited the company and enjoyed the purifying scents of Balinese essential oils. Of course, as it is in connecting scents, scents were exchanged. Oils that are rare on Bali, like rose oil, pleased Lilir. And the beautiful mix of the ‘temple spice’ was gladly taken home to Holland. This is a defenitly 'untill we meet again!'
